At Coastal Family Bible Church, we believe that the church should model itself after what is written directly in Scripture. Those pillars are translated as Theology, Structure, and Strategy. We have placed a large emphasis on these three areas in trying to help people understand what we are about at CFBC. Read about the importance of each below.
We hold a high view on the Word of God and its rich theological truths known as doctrine. Theology is not just for seminary students, but sound theology should be taught and practiced by the local church. Theology is more than just dull academic doctrine, it is serves as the very essence of why we do what we do. We believe theology is not isolated to Scripture, but can also be found and taught through the great hymns of the past and contemporary songs of today. We believe that our theology defines us. Theology is not just knowledge, but is practical and should be lived out. We love to engage in doctrinal discussions and our elders are open to discuss our stance on a variety of important topics.
How should church go about deciding what its governing system will be? Should it model itself after successful business? How about using a nation’s governing model? What about taking a pragmatic approach and seeing what has worked for other churches? Our belief is that Scripture provides us a model of how the church is meant to function. We believe in a church structure that consists of a plurality of biblically qualified elders who serve as the decision-making body of the congregation and submit to the headship that is the Lord Jesus Christ.
There are many areas that this pillar covers in the life of the church. One way is our philosophy of ministry. We believe the worship service should be centered around the Gospel of Jesus Christ and focused on the equipping of the saints; as opposed to a seeker-sensitive approach to draw in the lost. Secondly, we believe in teaching through scripture expositionally conducted through a verse-by-verse approach. This allows us to get the full context of any given scripture. Third, we believe that one of our primary objectives is multi-generational faithfulness. In Scripture, we see God's blueprint for achieving this. The primary responsibility falls to the parents to pass on their faith to their children. One way to achieve this is to include children, with their parents, during the worship service. Our leadership does not believe that age-segregation should be applied to the main worship-gathering of the church. Fourth, we take a simple approach to ministry, rather than flooding the calendar with a ton of programs, we offer only a few.
